Open Circuit in ABS Motor Relay: What it Means and How to Fix it

What does the Toyota error code C0273 mean?

The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is a fault code that can be read on many Toyota models. If you’re seeing this code, it means there is a defect in the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) motor relay circuit.

What are the symptoms associated with Toyota error code C0273?

When this error code occurs, you may see these light up on the dashboard:

  • ABS warning light
  • Engine light and/or service warning light

In many cases, the motor pump continues to run, even when the car is not on.

What causes Toyota DTC error code C0273?

The ABS motor relay is located in the ABS Engine Control Unit (ECU), and it supplies power to the ABS motor pump. If the voltage powering the motor relay is below the detection threshold, the DTC error code C0273 will show. Low voltage can be a result of an internal defect in the ABS, leading to the failure of this control.
